Commercial Fisherman - 10% fuel savings, Chatham, MA - February 2008

I've been using Sea-Slide for years and I can clearly see a savings of 10-15% (between $4,000 and $6,000 in annual savings) in my fuel costs each year.  I'm a commercial fisherman and fish 120 miles off the coast of Massachusetts and highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to combat the high cost of fuel each year.  If you would like more information on how I use it to save fuel, please call Ken Brice, President of HammerHead Products, Inc. 908-369-0476 and he'll put you in touch with me."

Brad, Cooee Bay Marine, Australia

"We were approached by Sea-Slide Australia to trial a new "Wonder Formula" that was claimed to substantially increase the speed of a jet ski by as much as 5 mph... Naturally as a racer myself we and everyone else in the shop were as skeptical as hell. Everyone knows in order to get that sort of performance increase you need to spend thousands.... Well we were wrong!  We applied approximately 250mls of the product to our 2001 SeaDoo XP and immediately saw an increase in speed from a gps 62 mph to 68.2 mph.

More from Down Under

"Thanks for the tech advice, we are going to re-apply and try again....Just for the record though, our race team Manager ( Mick Callaghan ) has reported  the following in a copy of a fax he sent me this morning,

Run 1 ( Conditions, smooth , nil wind , temp 24 degrees ) 2 pob. Props 34x15 cleavers )

RPM 6950 Left 6900 right eng ...Radar speed 118.5 GPS speed 118.2... This speed has never been achieved before application of sea-slide.. RPM has also increased by 450 rpm.

Use it as an aid to your anti-foulant!

"I've been using Sea-Slide for 4 years o Algae and other foreign matter just can't hang on.  At the end of the season, cleanup is a breeze.  I'm buying 6 gallons because other fisherman see me applying it and want to buy some.  You should sell it at all marinas so everyone can have the benefit of Sea-Slide." Frank Pettolina, April 2002

Clean and Saving Fuel at the same time!

"Before applying Sea-Slide to my 40’trawler Nomad II, in order to reach my cruising speed of 8.8 knots, I consistently needed 2000 rpms.  That is because the algae slime that built up on the bottom over time.

After applying two coats of Sea-Slide to the bottom over the top of the AF, algae slime still builds up, but as soon as I get underway, it totally releases.  My boat has the cleanest bottom in the sound.

Now it is only taking 1800 rpms to achieve 8.5 knots.  This was checked several times with my knot meter before and after.  This has to result in lower exhaust temperatures and longer engine life, and my fuel mileage has increased to 4.5 mpg.

I predict that you will sell a lot of Sea-Slide next year because I am recommending it to everyone I see." Jay Allen, Seattle, WA  September 18, 2001

Rich Dugan, Captain, The Idle Rich - 11% improvement in planing.

"Before the application of Sea-Slide on my Sea Ray 300 Sedan Bridge it would not plane below 2800 rpm.

We put Sea-Slide on the bottom in June, it now planes at 2500-2550 with full fuel tanks and full water tank.  An improvement of 11%!

Bo Haluszaczak, Reel Fanta-Sea II, Flemington, NJ  - Immediate improvement in acceleration

"I am writing today to tell you about my excellent results with your Sea-Slide Coating on my 26 ft Grady White Islander boat with twin 200 hp Yamaha Outboard engines.  I heard about your product from a neighbor and decided to try it.  I applied a coat of Sea-Slide® over my anti-foulant bottom paint while on its trailer prior to launching my boat for the season at Point Pleasant, NJ.  I found the product very easy to apply, taking less than a half an hour to get full bottom coverage using a paint roller and sponge for tight spots."

"After launching my boat, I could notice an immediate impact in acceleration, ride and reduced rpms to maintain my normal cruising speed.  The boat would quickly get to 34 knots, and I found I only needed to turn 3,800 rpms versus 4,200 rpms without Sea-Slide to maintain 34 knots.  The savings on gas were welcome.  I also found I had at least three extra knots of top end speed.  My hull stayed noticeably cleaner and the Sea-Slide coating lasted all season.  I could tell by the noticeably smooth and slippery feel on the hull, even after over 6 months of regular salt water cruising. "

"With the improvement in performance and savings on gas, especially with the fuel prices we expect this season, I plan on using Sea-Slide every year when I prep my boat.  Count my family and I as happy Sea-Slide users." - Bo Haluszaczak, Flemington, NJ  - April 2001

Captain Rusty Hoaglin, Clearwater, FL - 6.9% improvement in speed

" I own a 46' Bertram Sport Fish called Huntress.  Before Sea-Slide, our top speed averaged 15.9 knots.  After applying just one coat of Sea-Slide, our top speed jumped 1.1 knots to 17.0, an improvement of 6.9%!  We were getting ready to shell out $100,000 for new engines for similar performance.  Nothing I have ever seen or tried has come close to the performance of Sea-Slide."

Captain Rusty Hoaglin, Clearwater, Florida

Tom Martin of Martin Boat Company, Laurel, Maryland - Saving $100.00 per weekend on fuel

"I've been using Sea-Slide on my charter fishing boats as well as selling it in my store. My customers are getting 1-2 additional knots per hour on their charter boats as well as seeing fuel efficiencies of over 15%. One customer with a 28' boat is saving $100.00 per weekend on fuel."

"Sea-Slide allows my customers to get to the fishing sites faster, and can get to sites that may have been beyond reach without Sea-Slide. Additionally, Sea-Slide helps in keeping the bottom cleaner than bottom paint alone. Once you use Sea-Slide you will be a believer....It works!" - Tom Martin of Martin Boat Company, Laurel, Maryland

Chris Coll, Kayaks, New Zealand - 5% improvement.

"A few years ago I obtained a tin of Sea Slide and coated the bottom of my downriver racing kayak with it. It improved the performance significantly. I tested it over a measured course by timing the distance and maintaining a constant heart rate on my Heart Rate Monitor and confirmed that Sea-Slide made a difference of about 5%.The trouble is I can't remember the place I bought the Sea-Slide from. Can you supply me with the agent in New Zealand or Australia?" - Chris Coll

Bob Schardt, Montauk, NY - 10% improvement.

"I find I get an extra 2.2¸ knots/hr on my 27' fishing boat (10% increase in speed) along with a corresponding improvement in fuel economy.  The marinas are looking for it!" - Captain Bob Schardt, Montauk, NY

Miami Marine Research

Dynamic testing proved that Sea-Slide adheres well enough to survive 40,000 miles (60,000 KM)or more of ocean travel at 15 knots - more than is required for a year of service on pleasure and most commercial fishing boats. Presumably Sea-Slide would have lasted even longer were it not for a period of abnormally high abrasion during June and July.

Static fouling studies show that Sea-Slide does not reduce the effectiveness of anti-fouling paints. Out of ten paints evaluated over eight months time, Sea-Slide improved the fouling resistance of 3, impaired the performance of one, and six were unchanged versus the paints alone. Two paints were improved, none impaired and eight were unchanged after a full year of testing.

"The Sea-Slide  coating indicates drag reductions of approximately 7% to 17% below the anti-fouling painted hull. It is therefore concluded that the Sea-Slide paint reduces the overall drag of a hull by a clearly measurable value."

The total drag can be split into two main components; viscous or friction drag, wave and eddy making drag. The higher drag reductions at lower speeds are thought to be the result of the higher proportion of viscous drag at lower speeds. The assumption is that the Sea-Slide paint affects the viscous part of the total drag and has no effect on the wave and eddy making drag components. This means that Sea-Slide paint reduces proportionately larger percentage of total drag at lower speeds than at higher speeds in displacement type hulls.

In the planing hull the paint may produce additional effects of allowing the hull to plane sooner (come out of the water sooner) reducing the wetting surface of the hull. This will reduce the frictional part of the total drag.

The results of the tests indicate that the overall drag of a hull moving through water is affected by the application of the Sea-Slide coating. It is therefore recommended that Sea-Slide paint be used to smooth out the roughness of the hull caused by the antifouling paint normally used on commercial hulls like tankers and merchant ships. If it is proven that the Sea-Slide does not impede the action of the antifouling paint the benefits in commercial ships can be substantial.

Tank tests conducted by the Ocean Engineering Department of the University of Rhode Island using electronic measurement apparatus demonstrated that Sea-Slide applied over anti-fouling paint was of "a clearly measurable value". Separate tests with displacement and planing hulls confirmed that with Sea-Slide, significantly less force was required to tow a weighted boat through water. Tests for durability at an independent marine laboratory demonstrate that Sea-Slide will withstand the effect of 40,000 miles of ocean travel. This was done with coated panels attached to large drums rotating at a constant 15 knots surface speed.

Anti-Fouling Properties  - Miami Marine Research

Sea-Slide is not an anti-foulant; however, anti-foulant paints will function normally with Sea-Slide. Static and dynamic immersion tests for over 12 months in tropical waters confirm that Sea-Slide does not impair the effectiveness of antifouling bottom paints. The coating absorbs and holds water against the boat hull, allowing a normal interaction of sea water and bottom paint. Water in the coating is free to migrate between the coating and the surrounding sea (lake) water.
